Why is it important to use vitamin c the right way?

Vitamin c can have negative effects when not used well. People with allergies or sensitive skin may end up experiencing the raw end of the stick with dryness, itching, stinging, tingling, and general irritation on top of hyperpigmented skin. 

We put together several do’s and don’ts to help you understand vitamin c better. Follow these to make the most out of your Vitamin C serum

Here are 6 do’s when using Vitamin C

  1. Store in a cool dark place

Fluctuations in temperature and humidity can cause the Vitamin C formula to break down easily. This is the reason we packaged our Baobab Glow-C serum in an air tight, opaque pump bottle, to give you the most stable, high quality product of Vitamin C. 

Always store Vitamin C in a cool, dark place after closing the bottle tightly to ensure it is safe to use in the first place. Avoid Vitamin C packed in clear bottles. 

  1. Use once or twice daily

Use a Vitamin C serum once a day if you have sensitive skin, twice daily if otherwise, or 2 to 3 times a week if you use  vitamin c sheet masks

Underusing or overusing Vitamin C may simply not result in the results you’re looking for.

  1. Have a skincare routine 

If you have normal skin, remember to cleanse before using Vitamin C then follow up with moisturiser and sunscreen with SPF 30+.   1. Know your skin type

Having a skincare routine starts with knowing your skin type. There are four skin types namely oily, normal, combination, and dry skin. Take our skin quiz to know your skin type and to get a personalized skincare routine.

  1. Layer well

If you also use retinol or niacinamide, ensure to wait 30 minutes before applying either of them after using Vitamin C. 

  1. The right pH

Use a pH of 3.5 if you have normal skin and 5 or 6 if you have sensitive skin for Vitamin C to be absorbed into your skin well.
